Statement of Faith
Light of Christ Anglican Church
Salvation: We believe that salvation (being saved from the righteous judgement of God upon sinners) is solely through grace (or God's unmerited favor). Grace is a free gift from God, given to all who believe in his only Son Jesus Christ, and accept him as the Lord of their lives.
(Matthew 16:21-26) (John 3:16-19) (John 14:6) (Acts 4:12) (Romans 10:9-13) (Ephesians 2:4-9) (I John 5:9-12)
Jesus: We believe that Jesus is God, eternally existent with his Father, and he appropriately receives and is entitled to our worship. The Gospel narratives tell how he took on a flesh and blood body and lived as a human being on earth, by being miraculously conceived and born of a virgin woman, Mary. Although he never gave up or surrendered his divine nature, he was fully and completely human, even to the point of death, with the single exception that he never sinned.
(Isaiah 9:6-7) (Matthew 1:18-23) (John 1:1-14) (John 5:22-23) (John 8:54-58) (John 10:30)
The Bible: We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God. The 39 books of the Old Testament and the 27 books of the New Testament, though written by men, are supernatural revelation from God and are error free. Therefore, the Bible is our highest authority for doctrine, worship and living.
(Numbers 23:16-19) (John 1:1-14) (II Timothy 3:15-17)
One God: We believe in one God, eternally existent in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. This is sometimes called the doctrine of the Trinity.
(Deuteronomy 6:4-5) (Matthew 28:19-20) (Mark 12:28--31) (I John 5:7)
The Death and Resurrection of Jesus: We believe that Jesus, in obedience to his Father, voluntarily died for our sins, paying the price that we could never pay to enjoy full forgiveness and peace with God. God showed his acceptance of this ultimate sacrifice by raising Jesus from the dead after three days. The living Jesus ascended bodily into Heaven, where he now sits at his Father’s right hand.
(Romans 5:6-10) (I Thessalonians 5:9-10) (Acts 1:8-11) (Romans 8:31-35)
The Church: We believe that the church was created by Jesus Christ, who loved her as his Bride and gave his life for her. We glorify Christ through his sacraments, Baptism and the Lord’s Supper, both of which Jesus commanded his followers to perform. The Holy Spirit has been active in the church from the Day of Pentecost and has never stopped working in the church and in believers, always bringing glory to Jesus Christ. We believe in the Gifts of the Holy Spirit and his Fruits, which enable believers to live a life pleasing to God.
(Matthew 7:13-23) (Acts 2:38-39) (Romans 12:4-8) (I Corinthians 12:1-12) (I Corinthians 13:1-3) (Galatians 5:22-26)
The Second Coming of Jesus: We believe that Jesus Christ will return to this world in the sky with great glory. Everyone will see his coming. At that time he will overthrow the evil rulers of the world and their minions. He will raise up his saints in resurrection bodies like his own, and he will reign forever.
(Matthew 24:1-44) (John 14:1-3) (Acts 1:9-11) (I Corinthians 15:20-24) (I Thessalonians 4:15-17) (I Thessalonians 5:1-3) (II Thessalonians 2:1-4) (Titus 2:11-13) (Isaiah 26:19) (Daniel 12:1-3) (Matthew 22:30-32) (Mark 12:25-27) (Luke 20:34-38) (John 5:25-29) (Romans 8:22-23) (I Corinthians 15:35-45) (I Corinthians 15:51-55) (I Corinthians 15:20-28) (Philippians 3:20-21) (I John 3:1-3) (Revelation 20:4-6)
